Overview
ACTS Service Surge events bring hundreds of volunteers together to make a big impact in a small amount of time. ACTS partners with communitity leaders to identify local needs, develops project plans, determines resource needs, and manages projects to completion. Volunteers provide a basic skill and interest inventory at the time of registration so they can be matched with the "right" project. On Service Surge event day, hundreds of volunteers assemble in the target community, are assigned to project teams, and work for 4-5 hours to complete their tasks, while building relationships with homeowners, neighbors, and other volunteers. We have long said that "volunteers service without building relationships is just work done for free." These relationships are what drive lasting change because volunteers see local needs in terms of people instead of projects. This helps ignite a passion for ongoing service in the community long after Surge Day is over.
