Goals

  • Provide a vital opportunity to child victims of abuse.
  • Increase self-esteem among child victims of abuse.

Overview

The Crisis Resource Center plans to a weekly "Child Witness and Survivor of Violence" support group. We plan to offer five-ten week sessions (2 hours each) and anticipate a minimum of 40 to 50 children enrolled. Each week a different topic will be discussed. Examples include self-esteem, safety planning, feelings, good touch bad touch, positive behavior and problem solving.

The weekly support group will allow children to develop skills to prevent further abuse and connect them with community resources to turn to if they are fearful of future abuse.  Since abuse is often a learned behavior, we will send informational sheets home for parents/caregivers in addition to books and a variety of other activities for parents and children to discuss to continually reinforce positive behavior.

If awarded funding, children will be able to express their feelings and concerns, meet others in similar situations, and learn that no one deserves to be abused!!
