Goals

  • Utilize technology to improve reading for high school students

Overview

Technology is a great tool to enhance literacy skills for students. Immediate access to apps that reinforce basic skills and vocabulary, text that support comprehension and research skills and voice recording tools to enhance fluency can only increase high school student's literacy abilities. Additionally, the ipod touch device will increase student motivation.  Motivation plus access and quality instruction adds up to academic success.

Population: This project will target students in grades 9-12 who are reading 2 or more years below grade level. Maximum number of participants will be 15 students.

Deliverables
1) Increased literacy skills as shown by QRI-4 assessment tool and Ohio Literacy Alliance Reading assessment
2) Improved Grades
3) Surveys from students to measure motivation and how they felt about using technology
