Overview

The Reading Festival will instill a passion for reading in school-aged, underprivileged children. Volunteers will work together to collect book donations and a portion of the grant may be used to purchase good quality books from local Goodwill stores. These books will be distributed at a free book fair for students and parents. The Reading Festival will include reading-related activities and games, reading/story-telling circles, book-themed decorations along with volunteers in famous literary character garb. Perhaps most importantly, parents will be asked to attend a seminar on reading's importance to their children's future and what they can do to advance their interest and comprehension. This speech will be translated into Spanish to include non-English speaking parents. Donations will be collected to be redirected into the public school system. Publicity for the festival will be distributed beforehand through a collaboration with local schools and teachers.
