Goals
- To motivate our community to walk and pick up our neighborhoods
- To increase activity on our beautiful but underused public river walk
- To clean the banks and waterways of our St. Johns River
Overview
The "Take Me to the River" event is built to compel our inner city community to walk or bike from their neighborhood to our majestic and accessible St. Johns River, situated in the middle of the city. Many diverse areas are within walking and biking distance to our best natural asset. I envision this project to increase the adoption of our public riverwalk park as a destination and a means to get needed exercise, meet neighbors, and clean up litter in the core of our city. The project would strategically set up events at several urban core neighborhood parks as starting lines. Each participant would get a waste bag and litter picker, a tshirt, and a map to our riverwalk with the final destination being the Riverside Arts Market. Trash trucks would service the routes to the river and pick up filled bags of rubbish. Once arriving at the Riverside Arts Market prizes for the neighborhood with the most participants and route with the most rubbish will be awarded.

| Budget Notes: Since we already have a Saturday event that has between 10,000 and 50,000 participants, we have a great deal of volunteerism and infrastructure in place as well as an organization with excellent large scale events expertise. We have excellent ties to communities, city, and parks dept. | |
