Overview

Worthy Waste: To Make Worth of the Waste

This project aims to create awareness and inspiration in recycling and re-use. Through clever techniques of collection, consumers will be given an unusually significant monetary incentive to give their disposable plastic bottles to the project, simultaneously creating awareness of both the project and the cause.

Next, plastic will be treated and fabricated to be integrated with a lighting design that plays with the translucence of plastic. The aim of this art installation is to prove that plastic can be so beautiful and thereby valuable, that there is no need to throw it away.

The art installation will be unveiled at a Recycling Awareness Party/ Art Opening.

Deliverables:

  • 1 Art Opening/ Recycling Awareness Party, aprox. 400 attendees
  • A re-useable Art Installation of light and plastic
  • Media attention through an online blog, The City Paper, and The Philadelphia Inquirer
  • $5,000 in donations from individual and corporate donors
